ประเทศไทยได้ประกาศใช้กฎหมายเพื่อคุ้มครองสัตว์เป็นครั้งแรก เรียกว่า พรบ.ป้องกันการทารุณกรรมสัตว์ฯ โดยมีผลบังคับใช้ตั้งแต่ 27 ธันวาคม 2557 รายละเอียดของ พรบ.ใหม่ตัวนี้อยู่ในไฟล์แนบ สำหรับวันนี้เองก็ได้มีข่าวในการเริ่มบังคับใช้กฎหมายดังกล่าวกับกรณีที่มีชาวบ้านเอามีดฟันสุนัขซึ่งถือเป็นความผิดอาญาที่ยอมความไม่ได้แม้เจ้าของสุนัขที่ถูกทำร้ายจะยินยอมไม่เอาเรื่องก็ตาม http://www.thairath.co.th/content/472907
